Holy Qur'aan has been revealed to create a deep grief and restlessness. So when you recite it, weep

Holy Qur'aan has been revealed to create a deep grief and restlessness. So when you recite it, weep

Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri RadiyAllaahu Ta’aalaa ‘anhu narrated that Usaid ibne- Hudair was reciting Qur’aan one night in his courtyard; when his mare suddenly began to shy and started to move around. He continued to recite, and the mare once again moved around, but he continued to recite, and the mare continued to move around. Usaid RadiyAllaahu Ta’aalaa ‘anhu says: I feared that the mare might trample my son Yahyaa. So I stood near the mare and saw something like a canopy above my head, with what seemed to be lamps in it. Then this (object) started ascending towards sky; until I could not see it any more. He said: I went to RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) in the morning and I said: O RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam)! Late last night I was reciting (the Qur’aan) in my courtyard, when my mare started to shy and move around. RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) said: You should have kept reciting, Ibne-Hudair! He replied: I kept on reciting, and the mare moved around again. So RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) said: You should have kept on reciting, Ibne-Hudair! He submitted: So, I kept on reciting, and the mare moved around again. RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) said: You should have kept on reciting, Ibne-Hudair! He said: Then I turned towards it, as I was afraid that it might trample my son Yahyaa, who was near to it, and saw above my head something like a canopy, with what seemed to be lamps in it. Then this (object) ascended towards the sky, until I could not see it anymore. RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) said: Those were the Angels who came to listen to your recitation of the Qur’aan, and if you would have continued reciting, the people would have seen them in the morning, and they could not have stayed hidden from the people. (Muslim)

70.  Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri RadiyAllaahu Ta’aalaa ‘anhu narrated: I was sitting in a group of destitute Muhaajiriin (Emigrants from Makkah), and some of them had taken cover behind others as they did not have enough clothes on them, and one of them was reciting the Qur’aan to us, when RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) entered and stood (close) by us. At this, the one who was reciting the Qur’aan became silent. RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) greeted (us) and then said: What were you all doing? We said: RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) , one of our reciters was reciting and we were listening attentively to the Book of Allaah Ta’aalaaRasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) said: All Praises be to Allaah Who has created in my Ummah such a people, with whom I have been ordained to sit. Then RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) sat amongst us, to be equidistant from everyone. Then he gestured with his hand, and we sat in a circle with all of us facing him. (Abu Sa’iid says) I noticed that RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) did not recognize any of them other than me. RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) said: O community of destitute Muhaajiriin, glad tidings for you of a perfect Nuur (Light) on the Day of Resurrection. You will enter the Paradise half-a-day before the rich people (Muslims), and that (half-a-day) is (the span of) five hundred years. (Abu Daawood)

71.  Sa’d Ibne- Abi Waqaas RadiyAllaahu Ta’aalaa ‘anhu said that he heard RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) saying: Indeed, this Qur’aan has been revealed to create a deep grief and restlessness. So when you recite it, weep; and if you are unable to weep, then make a weeping face. And recite it with a pleasing voice, as one who does not (try to) recite with a pleasant voice is not from us. (Ibne- Maajah)

Note: Some scholars have also given another interpretation to this Hadith; that the one who does not become contented and free from want of what others have, by the blessing of the Qur’aan, in fact has not properly benefitted from it and hence is not from us.

72.  Abu Hurairah RadiyAllaahu Ta’aalaa ‘anhu narrates that RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) said: Allaah never pays so much attention to anything as He pays to the voice of a Prophet reciting the Qur’aan in a sweet tone. (Muslim)

73.  Baraa RadiyAllaahu Ta’aalaa ‘anhu narrates that RasuulUllaah (SallAllaahu ‘alaihi wa ‘aalihii wasallam) said: Beautify the Qur’aan with your voices. For indeed, a beautiful voice adds to the beauty of the Qur’aan. (Mustadrak Haakim)

Note:  It means that the beauty of the Qur’aan is made even more evident by the beautiful voice.

When the Qur'an is recited, give ear to it and pay heed, so that you may obtain Mercy

When the Qur'an is recited, give ear to it and pay heed, so that you may obtain Mercy

Inspiration from Qur'an and Hadith                                263

TO BE INSPIRED BY THE QUR'AN AND HADITH

VERSES OF QUR'AN

Allaah SubhaanaHuu wa Ta'aalaa said to His Prophet Sallallaahu 'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam: When they listen to that which has been revealed to the Messenger; you see their eyes overflow with tears, because of their recognition of the Truth (in the Qur'an). Al-Maa-'idah 5:83

Allaah SubhaanaHuu wa Ta'aalaa says:  And when the Qur'an is recited, give ear to it and pay heed, so that you may obtain Mercy. Al-'A'raaf 7:204

Allaah SubhaanaHuu wa Ta'aalaa says: He (Allah's favoured bondsmen) said (to Muusa Alaihis Salaam): Then if you follow me (to acquire knowledge) ask me not about anything till I myself mention of it to you.  Al-Kahf 18:70

The Signs of the Hereafter

The Signs of the Hereafter

on his own thighs, he said: O Muhammad! Tell me about Islam. RasuulUllaah (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) replied: Islam is to testify that none is worthy of worship but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish Salaat, to pay Zakaat, to fast in Ramadan, and to perform Hajj to BaitUllaah provided you have resources for it. The man said: You have spoken the truth. 'Umar RadiyAllaahu 'anhu said: We were amazed at his asking the question and endorsing the answer. Then he said: Tell me about Imaan (faith)? RasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) said: Imaan is to believe in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Last Day, and to believe in the Divine Destiny - both good and bad. He said: You have spoken the truth. And then asked: Tell me about IhsaanRasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) said: Ihsaan is to worship Allaah as though you are seeing Him, and even if you do not see Him, He certainly sees you. Then he said: Tell me about the Hour? RasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) said: The one who is asked about it knows no more than the one who is asking. He said: Then tell me about its signs. RasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) said: That a slave-girl will give birth to her mistress; and you will see bare-footed, naked and destitute shepherds competing with one another in constructing lofty buildings. 'Umar RadiyAllaahu 'anhu said: Then he went away and I stayed for a while. Then, RasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) said: O 'Umar! Do you know who the questioner was? I said: Allaah and His Messenger know best. He said: He was Jibraiil, who came to teach you your Deen (Islam). (Muslim)

Note:  In hadith, amongst the signs of the Last Day is that a slave girl will give birth to her owner (mistress); which means that disobedience of parents will become rampant at the approach of the Last Day, so much so that girls, in whose nature obedience to their mother is more ingrained, would not only become disobedient, but dominate over their mothers, as a lady mistress orders her maid-servant. This is why RasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) has described a slave-girl giving birth to her mistress. The second sign of the Last Day means, such people shall be in possession of wealth who would not be worthy of it. Their interest will be in constructing high buildings and they would compete with one another in it. (Ma'aariful Hadith)

35.  Hassan RahimahUllaah narrates that RasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) was asked about two men from the Bani Israiil as to which of them was superior. One of them was an 'Aalim, who observed the obligatory Salaat, and then sat and taught the people good, the other one fasted by day, and worshipped during the night. RasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) replied: The superiority of that 'Aalim who observed the obligatory Salaat then sat and taught good, over a devout worshipper who fasted by day and worshipped during the night, is like my superiority over the least amongst you. (Sunan-ud-daarmi)

36.  'AbdUllaah RadiyAllaahu 'anhu narrates that RasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) said: Learn the Qur'aan and teach it to people; acquire knowledge of Deen and teach it to people; learn the obligatory Commandments (of Allaah) and teach these to people: Indeed I would die and verily the knowledge will also be lifted soon, so much so that two people will disagree on an obligatory Command, and there will be no one who could guide them correctly about it. (Baihaqi)

37.  Abu Umaamah Al-Baahilii RadiyAllaahu anhu narrates that RasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) said: O people! Acquire knowledge, before knowledge is withdrawn, and before it is eliminated. (Musnad Ahmad)

38.  Abu Hurairah RadiyAllaahu 'anhu narrates that RasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) said: Indeed, among the actions and good deeds for which a believer will continue to receive rewards even after his death are: (1) Knowledge which he taught and spread (2) Righteous children whom he left behind  (3)  The Qur'aan which he left as an inheritance  (4)  A masjid which he built  (5)  A rest house which he built for the travelers  (6)  A stream which he caused to flow  (7)  A charity that he gave from his wealth, while he was alive and healthy. For all these, he will continue to receive rewards after his death.  (Ibne-Maajah)

39.  Anas RadiyAllaahu 'anhu says about RasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) that (at times and according to the needs of the moment) whenever he said something, he would repeat it thrice so that the meaning would be fully understood. (Bukhaarii)

40.  AbdUllaah ibne-'Amr ibnil-Aas RadiyAllaahu 'anhuma narrates that RasuulUllaah (Sallallaahu  'alaihi wa 'aalihii wasallam) said: Allaah will not take away knowledge of Deen from people at once, but will withdraw knowledge by the death of 'Ulamaa until no 'Aalim will be left, people will take ignorant men as their leaders. They will be asked question relating to Deen and they will give verdict without knowledge. They being astray will lead others astray. (Bukhaarii)
